Useful info and helpful hints

Thank you for choosing Ramster for your party.  We will do everything we can to make it a happy occasion for you and your guests.  Ramster is our family home so we would be most grateful if you would observe the following notes.  This is a quick glance useful list but please refer to our T&Cs for the hire of the hall.

  • PLEASE send your guests a map and a copy of local accommodation with your invitation, as well as the local taxi numbers. I will email you the enclosed accommodation list and map nearer to your wedding date, along with a few other useful things and updated information.
  • PLEASE DO also inform your guests that stiletto heels are not allowed in the Halls, they do irrepairable damage to the polished wooden floors.  (kitten heels or those with rubber tips are acceptable) If you are having a barn dance or ceilidh it is essential you ask your guests to wear suitable shoes or supply heel stoppers (see misc suppliers) as a rule any heel less than 1cm is not acceptable.
  • PLEASE DO NOT put balloons or other decorations on the front gate.  The sign on the road clearly indicates the entrance.
  • PLEASE DO NOT throw confetti or any similar substance, either inside or outside the hall.   Bubbles or sparklers outside make an attractive alternative.  Equally ‘table confetti’ and glitter gets stuck between floor boards and is impossible to clean, and even real petals have to be cleared up afterwards, please consider the bride who comes after you!  Please no bubbles inside, if spilt the floor is incredibly slippery and dangerous, they are great outside.
  • PLEASE note that children get easily bored at weddings and then get up to all sorts of mischief while their parents are happily enjoying themselves.  Ramster is not a suitable place for children to play unattended and we cannot take any responsibility for them. There are many dangers in the gardens, ponds and car parks. While we recognise that children are an important part of a family wedding, we do request, for your peace of mind as well as ours, that a qualified person is employed to look after them.
  • PLEASE make sure your florists do not arrange flowers on the dance floor or spill water on our polished floors. They must also adequately protect our furniture and light fittings and not hammer any nails into our property (see conditions of hire). Florists are expected to provide their own step ladders/ sheets to protect floor.
  • PLEASE ensure your guests respect the private areas of the house and grounds.  Of course we want your guests to have the best day along with you, but as a host please keep an eye on their behaviour to avoid accients and upsets!  (these usually involve alcohol, our caterers are not able to clear this up due to food handling regulations so an over all nominated person in charge will be responsible, we will have a note of this person in the diary)
  • PLEASE DO use our own bottle disposal service unless you want to do your own, this costs £25 and can be added to your invoice.
  • PLEASE  note that we have a locked storage area where items may be left, at your own risk, prior to the wedding. Please ask if you wish to use it.
  • PLEASE note that we will happily open the hall for delivery of drink or goods if you warn us of its arrival, but cannot hang around to sign for items delivered.
  • PLEASE DO check with us that the Hall is free if you, your caterers, florists or wine merchants wish to have access to the Hall the day before your event.
  • PLEASE note that if you need to be contacted during the function the number of the payphone in the Hall is  01428 656209. The office number is usually on answer phone at weekends. Mobile phones do not always work in the Hall area, as it is in a hollow.
  • PLEASE DO note that we do not mind cars being left on the premises over night, at your own risk, but please collect them by 10am the following day.  We highly recommend ordering taxis in advance, particularly on a Saturday night, otherwise guests face a long wait at the end of the party.
  • PLEASE DO ensure that the Hirer or the responsible person appointed by him/her remains on the premises until the last guest has departed.
  • PLEASE DO try to use suppliers who are local and know us and the halls well, we are not paid any commission by these suppliers, we just like them and they are good!
  • PLEASE note due to the  proximity of the stables and farm we do not allow fireworks.

EXTRA ITEMS & SERVICES

Please let us know your requirements at least a fortnight before the date needed. You will be able to log into Britevenue to complete your suppliers information and timing, if you haven’t had a log in please let us know or check your spam folder.

We have an easel that can be used for your seating plan, it can be used portrait or landscape, it can take card from any size (A2 – A0 ideal). Children’s high chairs (2 available, the caterer can hire in more if needed)

We have the following tables to choose from

  • Small oval top table (1 available) 10 seated all round or 6 on one side (8ftx4ft)
  • Big oval top table (1 available) 14/16 seated all round, 8-12 on one side (14’x4′)
  • The oval tables can be used with guests on one side or all the way round
  • 6′ round table to seat 12 (2 available)
  • 5’6″ round table to seat 10 (12 available)
  • 5’ round tables to seat 8-10 (10 available)
  • Table numbers with stands
    (stands also can take your own table names/numbers if desired, we recommend you use a stiff A5 card – double sided)

We have 120 chairs, if you require more we can hire them in at aprox £4.50 per chair plus delivery cost (approximately £35)

Extra 6′ trestles aprox £13.00 per trestle plus delivery cost (approximately £35 or included if included above)

Bottle Disposal

Bottle disposal service (Glass bottles only) £25.00 this can be added to your invoice.

Watercolours

Framed water colour pictures of the Long Hall at Ramster available to buy – make a great wedding present! There is a slot to put your names and wedding date Mounted but unframed £50.00 I can email you a picture if you want just get in touch.

 

FAQs

_— Can we use the grounds for photos?

Yes, we are surrounded by beautiful gardens, so do go for a wander with your photographer and get some lovely pictures, we don’t mind the bride and groom using the garden around the house for photos, but please respect the marked private areas and please don’t bring the whole wedding party with you, group shots are best done from the gallery in the drawing room or in the courtyard.  We have a secret spot a photographer can get high up to get a group shot while you are in the courtyard if you would like.

Technical kit

We have a CD player in the Drawing Room with an ipod docking station, if you want music in the Long Hall and you are using Mark Parker (our in  house DJ) for your music you should be able to use his kit to play music during the meal. Sorry, we don’t have any AV equipment, but can recommend a company locally if you want to hire a projector / screen for speeches etc.

Time of departure, band finishing and bar closing.

Our strict time for departure of all guests is 12 midnight. The bar will close 30 minutes before and music will stop 15 mins before the departure time.  Taxis should be booked for midnight or before.

Confetti

No confetti is allowed, sorry!  If you decide to use bubbles you must not hand them out inside the hall, if spilt on the wooden floor it is dangerously slippery, but they are lovely outside in the couryard.  Please dont use table confetti or glitter in the halls, it gets down between the floorboards and is very hard to clear up!

Payment and cancellation

Your deposit is not refundable in the event of a cancellation.  You will receive an invoice usually about 6 months prior to the wedding which should be paid well before your booked day.  The invoice will be for the full amount of the hire less £1500 of your deposit, then the remaining £500 will be returned after the wedding day, less hire of the bar, any additional tables / chairs that may have been required or any damage to the halls or surrouding areas. You are liable to pay the full amount if you have to cancel your wedding 10 months prior to the booked day.  Please refer to the T&Cs.

Stilettos

Metal tipped heels do permanent damage to the floors, any heels less than 1cm in width at the point can do damage to the floors, all shoes must be in good condition on the tip of the heel with no metal protruding. It is a good idea to get some heel stoppers for your guests. We recommend http://www.cleanheels.co.uk

Parking

We have lots of on-site parking, guests are welcome to leave their cars overnight, please collect by 10am the following day.

They all have an excellent reputation for very special food and fantastic service, so do get in touch with them in the first instance for some ideas about your food for your day.

He can provide mics for speeches, do the music for the ceremony and background music as well if you require.

The Great Drawing Room has a grand piano as well as a CD player/ ipod player for civil marriages. The CD player is located on the gallery, if Mark is not doing it you must provide someone to operate the music system, you can plug in an ipod into our docking station, we recommend you do try the music out before the day.
