It’s always hard to choose a favourite wedding season at Ramster, a wedding venue in the beautiful Surrey Hills, as each one has it’s own charm. This beautiful Autumn wedding reminded us of all the things we love about weddings at this time of year. The weather was favourable, as it often is in late September, so the wedding party was able to enjoy the outdoor courtyard after the wedding ceremony for drinks and canapes, the garden was full of stunning colour, and as the evening drew in, guests were able to enjoy the warmth of the Halls with the lit fires, under the sparkle of the fairy lights. It’s almost a “best of both worlds”, the enjoyment wedding parties receive with an outdoor summer wedding but also gaining the charm of the cosy, romantic feel of the Halls with the cooler evening.
The couple wanted an English-Scottish fusion wedding with a short ceremony and a big party. Lydia knitted socks for Angus to wear with the Mackenzie tartan kit that he had been given for his 18th birthday. She chose a pre-loved dress and carried a bouquet of dried flowers she has been able to keep as a memory of the day. Eighty guests looked on as Lydia walked into the Great Drawing Room to Nick Drake’s Northern Sky.
The newlyweds exited to Counting Crows’ Accidentally in Love, and then had some time in the garden together alone before re-joining the guests in the courtyard.
There were so many memorable details they incorporated into their day. Tables were named after the couple’s favourite pubs, and their table was The Stag, where they first met. The couple had asked Angus’s uncle to make them a bride’s cog – a wooden bucket that is warmed up and filled with a heady mixture of alcohol – that they had seen on a tea towel after Angus’s proposal. Cake toppers were Sylvanian Family toy animals from Lydia’s childhood, including a ‘little Scotsman’ dog in a kilt.
A piper led the the couple into the middle of the dancefloor for their first dance, and guests enjoyed a ceilidh before Mark, the DJ, took over. The day culminated with the couple leaving through the courtyard under a tunnel of sparklers, always the best exit!
We were thrilled to see this beautiful wedding was covered in The Times newspaper in November 2024, with photographs by the very talented Sarah Legge Photography.
